2014 Australian Clay Target Association National Trap Championships

Sunraysia Academy of Sport (SAS) athletes excel at 2014 Australian Clay Target Association National Trap Championships.

Beth Hayden and Travis Redman, from Mildura, travelled to Wagga Wagga to compete at the 2014 Australian Clay Target Association National Trap Championships, which were held on the 4th – 13th April.

Travis competed in the National Deauville Doubles with Daniel Mills. The pair came 1st out of 117 pairs in the open event, with a score of 112 from 112 targets. The duo saw off a challenge from former Olympian Deserie Baynes, and partner Renae Birgan to take out the victory.

Travis has been in a good run of form of late; from his last 200 shots he has achieved an accuracy of 98.16% which currently places him in the AA grade.

Beth competed in the Point Score event and came 3rd in the C grade out of 33 competitors. She achieved this result with a score of 288 out of a possible 300.

It was an exciting day for Beth as it was the first time she had shot 50 targets in a row. With that she shot 97 out of 100 targets.

Athletes will now focus their attention on competing at the Interschool Clay Target Shooting competition, the Victorian State Carnival in Echuca and also the New South Wales State Carnival in Wagga Wagga.

The Academy congratulates both Beth and Travis on their excellent results at the National Trap Championships. Both athletes have recently been selected to be a part of the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Individual Athlete Support Program.
