2014 SAS Golf Program Begins

Sophie Crouch leads the way with her 3rd year in the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Golf Program.

Sophie Crouch will be one of five young athletes to be accepted  a position in the 2014 Sunraysia Academy of Sport Golf Program. In her third year with the program Sophie is developing into one of the most promising junior female golfers in the Sunraysia region. This year for the first time she represented Victoria at Junior level.

The other athletes in the program are Lachlan Timms, Emily Smith, William Laity and Zepp Deckert.

It is a fantastic opportunity for all these young golfers to be provided with professional coaching from PGA Professional (Advance Coaching), Rob Nicholls on the finer points of the game. Rob will not only assist with the athletes golf techniques, but will also provide tips for on course management.

The program will include a camp to Moonah Links at the start of May, where talented juniors from all over country Victoria will be brought together to get individual tuition from state coaches and guidance to improve their strength and conditioning.

New to the program this year will be fortnightly group fitness sessions at Chaffey Secondary College in the weights room with Strength and Conditioning Coach, Mitch Brown.

Another addition to the program will be monthly sessions on a Saturday morning at Redcliffs Golf Club where athletes will be mentored on the golf course by experienced club players.

The program looks to develop the athlete in a holistic approach and athletes will also be provided with sessions on sports nutrition, sport psychology, goal setting, time management and anti-doping education over the course of the year.

Ultimately the Academy would like to see all these athletes playing in tournaments around Victoria on a regular basis and representing the Sunraysia region at the Victorian Junior Country Regionals in November.

The Academy would like to thank Sunraysia Driving Range for providing their training facilities free of charge for all Academy athletes and also the Victorian Golf Foundation for supporting the program financially to provide all young talented golfers with the opportunity to access this program.
