Not a Current Program
To deliver an elite baseball program, in partnership with Baseball Victoria and Baseball SA, that provides add on benefits to the development of local players to assist them in their endeavours to be selected for either the Victorian or SA State teams. This will hopefully lead to participation at the MLBAAP, College, ABL or Professional/International Baseball and ultimately help increase the pool of players that can represent Australia.
1)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Identification of regional athletes with long term characteristics for high performance baseball.
2)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Provide high level baseball specific training.
3)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Provide athletes the tools necessary for them to develop as high level athletes; athlete career¬†¬† and¬†education, strength and conditioning, fitness testing, access to a medical service provider network
4)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Increase the number of regionally based junior baseball athletes within our region.
5)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† To involve and support the personal development of regionally based baseball coaches in the program for the betterment of future baseball athletes
Specifically the inclusion of Baseball into the SAS would fit within the Victorian and South Australian baseball development pathway.
Boys and Girls aged 12-19 years of age. Approximately 20 athletes will be selected from Mildura.
Athletes selected in the SAS Baseball program must satisfy the following criteria:
- Players selected in a Victorian or SA State team or squad, or selected in an All-Star team at the conclusion of a winter or country championship are automatically selected.
- Additional members may be included in the program depending on ability, potential, age, position, sex & residency.
To be eligible for entry, athletes (boys or girls) must be:
a)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Registered and playing with a Club in the Sunraysia Baseball League. Players who no longer fulfil this requirement will be required to leave the program.
b)¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Eligible for any of the National Youth Baseball Championships, held annually in January, or the National Girls Baseball Championship, held annually at Easter.
Athletes in the SAS Baseball program must make any SAS activity their priority over other sporting pursuit.
Athletes must attend the trial ¬†at the Aerodome Ovals, Mildura on:
Friday¬†June 13th ¬†5:30-6:30pm.
Selection panel will be Tony Probert, Nick Carroll and Matthew Williams¬†(Baseball SA)
Athletes will be notified by email of their acceptance into the program by Wednesday 18th June.
All athletes offered a place in the 2014 Baseball program will be required to complete an application form and return it to the SAS office by Monday 23rd ¬†June (with a $50 non-refundable deposit).
The Head Coach, Tony Probert, has been appointed by Baseball Victoria and SA Baseball.¬† Development coaches will be sourced from the region to assist with the program.
Structure of Program
The program will run from June to December¬†2014. Athletes in the program will receive:
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† On field training (up to twice a week)
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† 2 day training camp in Adelaide (Oct)
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Opportunity to compete at SA Country Championships (Oct 4th-6th) & summer Riverland Competition (Friday nights)
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Group¬†and Individual strength and conditioning sessions
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Sports science (fitness testing at least twice) and musculoskeletal screening
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Athlete career and education sessions
–¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Access to a broad range of medical service providers at a reduced cost
