The Sunraysia Academy of Sport Baseball program has delivered its first state representative, eighteen year old Charlie Ashcroft has recently been selected to compete at the National U23 Championships for South Australia.
Charlie, a right hand batter who had a stellar season with the local baseball club, Hawks won the Sunraysia Baseball League â€˜Aâ€™ Grade Runner Up for Most Valuable Player. He also was announced as the Ian Bishop Medallist for the Sunraysia Baseball League.
After playing for South Australia last year in the Under 18 Championships, Charlie has proven he has what it takes to take the giant step to the U23 level. He will be an integral part of the SA team, playing as a pitcher as well in the middle infield positions of short stop and 2nd base.
The National U23 Championships will take place in South Australia from the 26th September to the 1st October and will be hosted by Southern Districts Baseball Club. The states competing include; NSW, Qld, SA, Victoria and WA.
The Academy would like to wish Charlie well at the upcoming National Championships as well as acknowledge the hard work put in by the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Baseball coaching staff; Tony Probert, Nick Carroll and Shanhan Barrot. The program has also received wonderful support from the Sunraysia Baseball League, the Victorian Provincial Baseball League and Baseball Victoria & SA.
All twenty Academy athletes and coaches will be travelling to Adelaide next week for a 2 day training camp, before competing atÂ the South Australian Country Championships.
