At the age of 18, former Sunraysia Academy of Sport baseball athlete, Clavell will be the youngest athlete in the team when he represents South Australia at the Under 25 Nationals later this month.
Ben Clavell has been playing baseball in Mildura since the age of 11. From a young age he has shown a lot of talent, selected in the Sunraysia representative teams every year for his age group. He has represented Sunraysia at both the Winter Championships in Victoria and the South  Australian Country Championships. Most recently he was an integral member of the Sunraysia team at the Senior Winter Championships held in Geelong in June.
Ben currently plays baseball locally for Hawks Baseball Club, coached by Tony Probert.
Tony has been instrumental in Ben’s development particularly over the last couple of years, coaching him last year in the inaugural Sunraysia Academy of Sport Baseball Program.
With baseball being played during the Winter in Mildura, Ben travels to Adelaide from October through to March to play for Glenelg Baseball Club. Last year he played Division 2 Men’s and U19’s. The commitment to play in Adelaide is huge, not just for the athlete, but for the families involved as well.
In January this year Ben represented South Australia at the Under 18 National Championships, his first opportunity to play at a State Level. The experience was obviously a positive one as he has moved up to the next age group this year.
The Academy would like to congratulate Ben on this wonderful achievement and wish him all the best in his preparation for the tournament as well as the tournament itself. Â The Nationals will be held at Trinity Beach, Cairns from 28th September through to the 5th October.
