Sunraysia Academy of Sport athlete, Sophie Crouch, wins the Riverside Summer Open.
Sophie Crouch is fast becoming a forced to be reckoned with in golf, not only locally but across the state.
Sophie finished the year winning the 2014 Murray River Junior Masters, winning the U18 Girls with a nett score of 285. The 72 hole event was held on the 18th to 21st December 2014.
On the weekend,Â Sophie played in the 2015 Riverside Summer Open and won the ladies section after a 2 hole playoff. The 36 hole competition was held over 2 days ; Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th February, playing 18 holes each day.
On Saturday Sophie came in with a 77 gross and Sunday 85 gross. At the conclusion of the competition on Sunday, she was equal leader with Jenny Stephens from Broken Hill, who was last yearâ€™s winner.
To decide the winner both women went into a playoff.Â Both were even after the first hole playoff so they had to play a second hole playoff. Sophie held her nerve in the playoff with quite a gallery of spectators watching on and was the eventual winner.
Sophie has dropped her handicap down to 5 and is on the verge of going down to 4.
This Month, Sophie will be competing in the 2015 Central Victorian Junior Masters (a 36 hole event held over 2 days) held in Bendigo at Neangar Park Golf Club.
She has also entered the 2015 Victorian Junior Averages which incorporates the Future Champions Trophy for Girls. To be eligible to win the trophy, girls must play a total of 15 rounds from the junior averages calendar and must include a minimum of 1 x72 hole event, 2 x 18 and 36 hole metropolitan events and 2 x 18 and 36 hole country events at clubs affiliated with Golf Victoria.
The Academy would like to congratulate Sophie on an outstanding win on the weekend and wish her all the best this year and she continues to travel around Victoria, playing in a number of golf tournaments.
