Sunraysia Academy of Sport athlete, Beth Hayden, excelled at the State Victorian titles recently to come home with three medals.
Last weekend, Beth Hayden was one of four Mildura shooters who placed at the Victorian State Carnival held over three days at Echuca.
Beth ended up with; one gold (Junior teams event where she was representing the North West Zone), one silver (Double Rise B Grade) and one bronze medal (Single barrel B Grade).
Beth had only shot the double rise competitively twice before – and one of those was at the state carnival last year. In Double Rise a shooter has two shots to hit two targets released simultaneously. Â She won her individual medals by winning both her shoot offs – a terrific effort as they are held in front of the club house with everyone watching. Initially she and the person she tied with shot the same score (8 out of 10 targets) in the shoot off so they had to shoot again – this time Beth didn’t miss a target and won easily.
The Academy would like to congratulate Beth on these fantastic results at the Victorian State Carnival. Beth is only relatively new to the sport of Clay Target Shooting and this year with the support of the Academy has started to really make her mark in the sport. Every competition she attends she is improving. Winning in a shoot off requires lots of concentration and focus and work with a Sport Psychologist earlier in the year has provided Beth with some tips on staying mentally tough.
