Sunraysia Academy of Sport athlete, Zac Hermans, has been offered a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for volleyball .
2014 has been a year Zac Hermans will remember for years to come. His growth in stature; both height and prominence in the sport of volleyball over the past 12 months has been incredible.
An integral member of the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Volleyball program since 2011 he has worked hard to get where he is today.
In December 2012 and 2013 he was selected to attend the Australian Junior camp. This year in April he toured Thailand with the Junior Australian Development Squad, giving him his first taste at representing Australia.
In March, Zac was selected to compete for Victoria in the U19 Men’s Blue Team and recently competed at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships where Victoria won a Bronze medal.
Following an outstanding Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in July, Zac was invited to stay at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra to attend an intensive 4 day training camp. At the conclusion of the camp Zac was offered an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Volleyball Scholarship to start in 2015. One of only three under 18 boys to be offered a Scholarship.
We wish Zac every success in his decision to move to Canberra to pursue his sporting aspirations. While in Canberra he will complete year 12 at the University of Canberra. Where he hopes to pursue his dream of not only play volleyball on the international scene, but also become a music teacher to follow his passion of music.
Zac is the second Sunraysia Academy of Sport Volleyball athlete to be offered an AIS Scholarship, following in the footsteps of Brad Mason.
The Academy are very proud of Zac’s achievements and attribute his success to the coaches and personnel that have been involved in the SAS Volleyball Program and Zac’s supportive family which have provided him with so many opportunities over the years to assist in his volleyball development.
