Jayden Curtis will compete at the Australian Little Athletics Championships to be held in Melbourne in May.
Following the State Individual Championships in Adelaide last weekend the Under 13 State Team was selected. Selection was based on athlete performances at a number of association events as well as weekly competitions, including;
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Regional Games
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Personal Best Day
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â State Multi-Event Championships
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â State Individual Championships
Athletes generally need to perform well at more than one event as each state is only entitled to send 22 athletes in total, ideally made up of 11 boys and 11 girls. There are 13 individual events contested plus a relay with each state encouraged to enter 2 athletes in each individual event and one team in the relay event. With a Gold medal in the U13 800m and 1500m at the State Individual Championships Jayden secured a position in the South Australian Under 13 State Team.
Jayden has been a member of the 2013/2014Sunraysia Academy of Sport Athletics Program for the first time this season and has been training at least twice a week since September last year under the watchful eye of coach, Emily McClelland and Simon Moran. The program in its 2nd year is proving to be a great breeding ground for young athletes in the Sunraysia region. Jayden is also a member of Mildura and District Little Athletics Club.
His commitment to the sport has paid off with selection in his first State Athletics Team. The Sunraysia Academy of Sport would like to congratulate Jayden on his selection and wish him well at the Australian Little Athletics Championships on May 3rd at Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne. An opportunity to compete against the best middle distance runners from across Australia in his age group.
