Former Sunraysia Academy of Sport athlete, Dillon Chambers, outstanding on the international stage.
The K-Sports 2014 ITTF Oceania Cup & Championships were held in Bendigo from 16-21 April 2014. More than 80 of Oceaniaâ€™s elite table tennis players converged on Bendigo. The 6 day event attracted players from 11 countries.
Locally Mildura born and raised athlete, Dillon Chambers, over the past few years has shown enormous potential in his chosen sport. After moving to Melbourne about 3 years ago to further his table tennis aspirations his hard work is definitely paying off.
In the Oceania Cup, Dillon competed for Australia and his results were:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Bronze medal in the U21 Menâ€™s Singles
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Silver medal in the U21 Menâ€™s Doubles (partner was Y Shen)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Gold medal in U21 Mixed Doubles (partner was V Bui)
Australia dominated the Oceania Championships, a team event, with the Menâ€™s and Womenâ€™s Teams victorious as well as the Menâ€™s and Womenâ€™s U21 Teams winning the Gold medal as well.
Dillon was part of the victorious Australian Menâ€™s Team (team of 4) as well as the Australian Menâ€™s U21 Team (team of 3).
The Academy would like to congratulate Dillon on his outstanding achievements. It is always difficult for our young athletes to have to leave Mildura to pursue their sporting dreams. It is such a big decision for families to make. Dillon is making the most of his opportunities in Melbourne and we will continue to follow his table tennis achievements with great interest. He is a fantastic role model for other up and coming Sunraysia athletes.
