THE Sunraysia Academy of Sport Volleyball program has once again proven its power.
Twenty-one current or former program participants have been selected in Victorian state teams to compete at the Australian Junior Championships at Gawler, SA, in July.
“This is a fantastic result for 2011 – in 12 months the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Volleyball Program has successfully doubled the number of state team representatives,” academy co-ordinator Vicki Telfer said.
“Our best ever number was back in 2009 – this is proof that the academy is delivering a program that develops highly skilled athletes and assists them to reach their goal of state and national representation.
“Only six athletes from the SAS program made the state representative team in 2010.”
Spearheading the charge in the under 19 girls team is recent Australian under 19 touring squad selection Cara Meyer and Kirsty Telfer, while former academy representatives Brad Mason and Ashby Smith will line-up in the under 19 boys team.
Adrian Fox (under 19 development team); Amy Mann, Karly Bart¬lett, Ashlee Spence, Laura McLean, Rebecca Allan, Jess Radford, Amy Burke, Kimberly Harwood and Alyce¬ Mason (under 17 girls); Kyahm Ross, Liam Hermans, Lachlan Highdale, Harry Stemp, Dustin Freckleton, Robbe Miller and Jesse Robinson (under 17 boys)
Sunraysia Academy of Sport will also be represented in the coaching ranks with Allan Hassell squad coach of the under 17 girls, David Berry leading the under 19 girls, while former academy coach Paul Freckleton is the head coach for the under 17 boys.
