Three Sunraysia Academy of Sport athletes competed recently at the School Sport Victoria state cross country finals.
The School Sport Victoria State Cross Country finals were held at Bundoora in Melbourne on Thursday July 18th.
Lochie O’Brien was the stand out performer winning the 14 years boys race in a time of 9:59.5 in the 3km event. This was after only recently returning from a Canadian Athletics Tour where he claimed gold in the 200m, 300m, 800m and 1200m in his age group at the Trevor Craven Memorial meet in Vancouver.
Montana Macfarlane continues her impressive form with a silver in the 15 years girls race in a time of 10:25.4. This comes after winning silver in the Athletics SA School Cross Country State Championships held in Adelaide in mid June.
Lochie and Montana are both part of the Individual Athlete Support Program and are being coached by Simon Moran and local coach Emily McClelland. Montana is hoping to represent SA at the Australian Cross Country Championships to be held in Launceston, Tasmania from August 29-September 1.
Talented athlete, Jayden Byrne also ran very well at the State Cross Country finals, finishing 12th in a time of 16:39.3. Jayden is part of the SAS Athletics program and being coached by Emily McClelland.
