SAS Tennis Athletes Make An Impact

Sunraysia Academy of Sport tennis athletes have performed well at a number of regional tournaments held recently.

The 2013 Sunraysia Tennis Program athletes took a major step up in their development and the players made quite an impact at the Inter regional challenge and tournaments over the June/July holidays.

Doug Hill, Tennis Victoria’s Regional State Coach said “he was absolutely delighted with the results, energy, determination and attitude of all the players over this period with a special mention to ‘team’ manager Maree Moore and the parents support”.

In the ‘teams’ event over the Queens Birthday weekend SAS athletes combined with players from Horsham and Bendigo in a Northern Mallee composite team to finish in 5th place against teams from country and city regions, disposing of some more fancied rivals and making the ‘tennis community’ sit up and take notice.

Bendigo AMT & OJT was the ‘tournament support’ venue in July with SAS athletes competing in a number of events including the AMT to test their skill and come away with valuable lessons to progress their development.

Notable results:

Xavier Kendall – semi-final singles and final doubles

Jack Delmenico – winner consol singles

Lachlan Hewitt – quarter final consol singles

Isabella Collett – quarter final singles : & South Aust OJT – runner up consol singles

Sheree Moore – AMT Qual. semi final consol singles and AMT semi final doubles

The SAS Tennis program is a holistic approach with parents and private coaches involved so that the athletes, along with personalised take home gym programs and regular athlete career and education sessions, receive all the support they need to advance their potential and dreams.

Head coach Doug Hill thanked the Victorian State Government, Tennis Victoria, Mildura Lawn Tennis Club and local business’s for the generous sponsorship of this significant tennis program and gratefully acknowledges the encouragement and contribution of the player’s parents and private coaches.
