Zac to wear the Green and Gold

Sunraysia Academy of Sport athlete Zac Hermans has been selected in the Australian Junior Men’s Volleyball Development Squad.

The Australian Junior Men’s Development Squad to tour Thailand has been announced, with local volleyball player Zac Hermans being given the opportunity to fulfil his dream of wearing the green and gold. The tour will be challenging and demanding but at the same time a fantastic opportunity for Zac to develop Volleyball skills on and off the court to the standards required to compete at the international level.

Athletes were selected to this team by four (4) main criteria:

  • Physical, Mental and Emotional attributes of a successful Senior International Volleyball athlete;
  • International Performances for Australia during 2013;
  •  Athlete Performance at the AUS ’97 December Camp 2014 (Bendigo, VIC);
  • Athlete Performance during the 2013 AJVC.

The Australian Junior Men’s Development Squad will participate in a Thailand tour incorporating a training camp and a series of matches, at least three (3), in the Thailand Junior National Championships. In order to progress further in the tournament draw the Australian team  will need to win matches. Australian coaching staff will also endeavour to arrange additional ‘Friendly’ matches for our Australian teams with other Australian teams or Thailand teams where appropriate.

The Australian selection panel has targeted athletes for this tour who possess the physical, mental and emotional attributes to be successful for Australia now and into the future.

This tour will play a significant role in the selection process for the 10th Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championships (athletes born in 1997 or 1998).

Volleyball Australia management and coaching staff believe this tour is a fantastic opportunity for our Australian Squad to experience the Asian style of game, climate conditions and day to day demands of international Volleyball tours. As such we have continued with our targeted and committed approach to expose a group of talented athletes to high quality tour experiences.

The Thailand tour will be from April 10th – April 27th and includes a Training Camp and participation in the Junior National Volleyball Championships and Friendly matches in Bangkok (FIVB Development Centre – Thailand)

The Thailand training camp will see the Australian team train, acclimatise and play matches against a number of strong opponents that will include Thailand Junior Provincial teams (U21). The training camp is absolutely critical in our preparation and development for the future, in particular for the Asian Junior / Youth Championship campaigns during 2014.

A strong level of Athlete physical preparation before the tour is essential. With only 7 weeks to go Zac must prepare himself to be at the peak of his game both mentally and physically due to; the challenging environment- hot and humid, the standard of competition will be high and the style of game at the tournament will be skilful and fast.

The Sunraysia Academy of Sport would like to congratulate Zac and his coaches on this wonderful achievement and wish him well on his journey.
