2026 – 2027 Sunraysia Academy of Sport Scholarship Program

The Sunraysia Academy of Sport is proud to announce the launch of its 2026 – 2027 Scholarship Program; The Scholarship Program is a comprehensive initiative designed to nurture and advance the region’s most promising athletes. Running from July 2026 to April 2027, this program provides targeted financial support, professional training and development opportunities, and a robust network of resources. The main objective is to assist athletes in reaching their full potential both on and off the field, with a specific focus on those competing at National and above levels of competition.

For the 2026 – 2027 Scholarship program, two athletes will be selected. One of these athletes must have been part of a Sunraysia Academy of Sport Program within the past two years, while the other will be a newcomer who has not participated in any SAS program before.


Eligibility Criteria, Timeline, Inclusions and Ongoing Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 13 and 18 years of age in 2026
    (2008 – 2013).
  • Sporting Level: Athletes must have competed at a National or above level in the past 12 months and have plans or have been selected to compete at a National or above level in 2026 or early 2027.
  • Financial Need: Applicants should be experiencing a financial burden due to extensive travel and/or the costs associated with sporting competition.
  • Personal Goals: Applicants must have strong ambitions to progress further in their chosen sport while also recognising the importance of academic achievement.
  • Leadership & Inspiration: Candidates should demonstrate leadership qualities and a genuine desire to inspire others to achieve their own sporting goals.
  • Candidates must be willing to speak at events and promote the academy at events and functions where applicable

Timeline

Applications open: Friday 8th May

Applications close: Monday 15th June

Shortlisting and athlete interviews: 15th June – 3rd July

Athletes selected: 6th – 13th July

Athletes commence: 20th July – commencement to involve an athlete management plan and successful applicant promotion

Selection Process

When applications close, athletes will be shortlisted and interviewed by people such as SAS staff, coaches, board members, or other stakeholders. Additional questions or interviews might be necessary before the final selection is decided. The chosen athletes will be those who most closely meet the eligibility criteria.

Inclusions

Training OpportunitiesDistributed in three increments (every three months), supporting access to training such as Strength and Conditioning and/or Specialist Sports Sessions.
Fitness TestingFacilitates assessments at both the start and end of the program to monitor athlete progression.
Uniform ItemProvides for one uniform item..
Travel SupportAssists with reimbursement of costs associated with competitions and trial events.
Tailored Athlete Education & Medical Network SupportProvides access to athlete-specific education resources and a network of medical professionals for ongoing support.

Additional Athlete Opportunities

Scholarship recipients will also gain access to further components of the SAS program, including educational sessions and workshops that are open to all SAS athletes. These opportunities are designed to complement the core scholarship and further enhance athlete development.

Membership Benefits

Mildura Waves – Thanks to Aligned Leisure athletes will receive a full membership for the duration of their scholarship

14 & Over – Gym and Aquatic use
13 & Under – Full Aquatic use

Scholarship Recipient Requirements

  • Athlete management plan to commence the program
  • Check-ins – At least four check-ins are required during the scholarship program: one at the start and then every three months, to ensure the athlete is supported and setting a positive example as a scholarship holder.
  • Ongoing Communication: Recipients must keep the Sunraysia Academy of Sport regularly updated with their sporting achievements throughout the duration of the scholarship.
  • Leadership Role: Scholarship holders are expected to act as leaders within the Academy and community, setting a positive example for peers.
  • Event Promotion: Recipients must assist in the promotion of Academy events and activities, helping to build the Academy’s profile within the community.
  • Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Awards Night and take part in a Q & A session.

Meeting these criteria and fulfilling these requirements is essential for both the application process and continued participation in the Sunraysia Academy of Sport Scholarship Program. The Academy values dedication, leadership, and a balanced approach to sporting and academic pursuits.
