Board of Management

The Sunraysia Academy of Sport is an autonomous not for profit organization that is governed by a Board of Management. The board plays an important role in the organization’s success.

Board members should possess, skills or competencies which are highly regarded within their field, as the aim is to have members who provide a wide range of knowledge and skills suitable to tackle all of a board’s responsibilities effectively.

The current members of the Academy’s Board of Management strive to operate with strategic direction and governance as their primary focus. If you are interesting in joining the board applications are always welcome.

Current SAS Board of Management Members:

Mrs Carmel Mackay (Chairperson)

Carmel was part of the founding group that kickstarted the Sunraysia Academy of Sport before it’s first official programming year in 2005. Carmel has been a Board Member since the Academy officially commenced in 2005, during her service, Carmel has served as a Board Member, Vice Chairperson and has been the Chairperson for a number of years.

Carmel is currently the Executive Officer of Mallee Sports Assembly since 2001. Carmel oversees, plans and manages all the Assembly’s staff and programs across Mildura, Swan Hill, Gannawarra and Buloke municipalities.

Cameron Woodward (Vice Chairperson) – Elected to Vice Chairperson 2024 (Member since 2019)

Cameron is an Australian former motorcycle speedway rider, who has won the Victorian State Championship on three occasions and finished 3rd in the Australian Championships in 2012. Cameron competed overseas from 2003 to 2014.

Jack Mills (Treasurer)Elected in 2022

Jack has an extensive understanding of financial audits and financial strategic planning. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Corporate Finance) from the University of Adelaide and also have a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting with the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand.

Marion Wilson (Secretary) – Elected 2024

Results driven management professional with over 30 years’ experience and a proven track record in successfully managing high performing teams.

Bryan Wilson (Board Member) – Elected 2016

Bryan competed at both Local, State, National and International level in shooting for more than 30 years.  He has competed in four Olympic Games and two Commonwealth Games winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 1994.  His history includes competing at numerous World Cups and World Championships. Bryan has been supported by the Victorian Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport and is a qualified coach and a life member of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia. When living in Melbourne he set up and ran monthly coaching clinics for up and coming shooters and also arranged National Coaching Clinics.

Fiona Heley (Board Member)Elected 2024

Retired Business Manager with over 30 years’ experience in financial management and accounting, human resource management and auditing/risk management.
